The Historic Pools Museum at Roosevelt Warm Springs in Georgia preserves the two original 88°F naturally warm pools that Franklin Roosevelt soaked in regularly between 1924 and his death in 1945, while seeking polio rehabilitation. The Warm Springs campus operates as both a historical site and a working rehabilitation hospital, and the original Gentlemen's and Ladies' pools are accessible only via docent-led tours offered on select dates each season — a rare combination of pilgrimage history and actual mineral-water soak. Tours are $25 and include a 1-hour soak in the restored pools.

What to expect

Reserve a tour slot weeks in advance — they run only a handful of weekends per season and sell out fast. Arrive at the museum in Warm Springs, GA (about 80 miles south of Atlanta), take the docent-led history walk, and the tour ends with a 1-hour soak in the restored pools. Swimsuits required, photography limited inside the historic bathhouses. The Little White House (Roosevelt's home, where he died) is a 5-minute drive and worth a separate visit.
