Little Niagara (Chickasaw NRA) - Free soaking · donation encouraged in Sulphur, OK (2026)
Travertine Creek’s warm mineral flow cascades into a clear swimming hole shaded by post oaks, offering a rare Oklahoma spring soak.

Little Niagara is a swimming hole and small mineral cascade inside Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, Oklahoma — a rare natural warm-water swim spot in the southern plains, where Travertine Creek's spring-fed flow drops over a small ledge into a clear pool shaded by post oaks. The water runs 65-70°F (cool but tolerable in summer), and the surrounding park preserves the historic 'Sulphur Springs' that gave the town its name and prompted the area's 1902 designation as one of America's first national park-system units (then Platt National Park, now Chickasaw NRA). Free, summer-only swimming. Camping nearby.
What to expect
Drive into Chickasaw NRA from US-177, follow signs to the Travertine Creek area. Park (lot fills early on summer weekends), walk a few minutes down to the swimming hole. Lifeguards on duty in summer. No glass, no flotation devices. The water is genuinely cool — expect 65-70°F, which feels great on a 95°F Oklahoma summer afternoon but is too cold for a long soak. Pair with the nearby Bromide and Sulphur Springs interpretive walks and the campground.
