Berkeley Springs State Park - Day-use fee or pay-per-soak in Berkeley Springs, WV (2026)
George Washington’s favorite spa blends historic Roman baths, saunas, and spring-fed swimming pools in downtown Berkeley Springs.

Berkeley Springs State Park, in eastern West Virginia near the Maryland line, claims George Washington as a regular 18th-century soaker — and the records back it up. The park preserves the original five colonial-era warm springs (74-76°F, naturally warm but not hot) inside a small downtown park, with a state-run bathhouse offering Roman-style soaks and traditional bath treatments. It's the oldest continuously operating spa in the United States.
What to expect
Two paths: the free outdoor 'pebble pools' for splashing your feet in the spring source, or the state bathhouse for a $25-50 private Roman bath in marble tubs filled with the same warm spring water. The bathhouse preserves the early-20th-century treatment-room layout. Pair with a walk through the small downtown, which is dense with antique shops and quirky cafés.
