Three cataloged pools cover the spectrum: Verde Hot Springs is a free, primitive soak inside the Mazatzal Wilderness reached by a 2-mile hike or short paddle; Castle and Ringbolt Hot Springs sit in slot canyons accessed from the river. All three are free, clothing-optional by tradition, and best visited October–April. Summer flash-flood risk is real in the canyon springs, and surface temperatures around the Verde Valley can become genuinely dangerous mid-summer.
Spring runoff can bury riverside pools—late summer has the clearest water.
